GIFTS FOR MOTHER'S DAY, ARMENIA | MON AMIE
April 7 is not a public holiday in Armenia, but on this day, children congratulate their mothers, grandmothers and sisters, and men congratulate their wives and brides as they do on the 8th of March.
April 7: Roots
According to the biblical writings, guardian angels inform the Mother of God on April 7 that she will have a baby in 9 months. By the decree of the Catholicos of All Armenians, Garegin II, the feast of the Annunciation is proclaimed the Day of the blessing of motherhood.
In all Armenian churches on this day, the rite of blessing of mothers is performed.
Festive events are held throughout the country: children's concerts and performances, exhibitions of drawings, contests, shows and so on.
Many Armenians call the period from March 8 to April 7 a women's month.
April 7: History
After the collapse of the USSR and the independence of Armenia, the leadership of the republic decided to cancel the celebration of March 8, and instead celebrate the Day of Motherhood and Beauty on April 7.
However, under pressure from the representatives of the female gender, the parliament adopted an appropriate amendment to the law "On Holidays and Memorable Dates" and March 8 stayed a public holiday - International Women's Day.
Nevertheless, April 7 remains a holiday (although not a public holiday) in Armenia.
