Injectables are gradually becoming a staple for beauty. Everyone wants to look radiant, flawless and young. People are keeping a finger on the pulse of these beauty trends. Dermal fillers and many more cosmetic injectables are there to breathe a new lease of life into the skin. These make you feel great in the sense that they actually work well on wrinkles, scars, acne and other skin conditions.

But, you should know what you should do before and after any cosmetic procedure.

Precautions to Take Before Dermal Filler Injections

Here is what you should do before having dermal fillers:

· Stop the intake of aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen, Fish oil and high doses of vitamin E. Eliminate them for at least 7-10 days before your procedure unless their intake is medically necessary.

· If you feel a slight discomfort, ask your cosmetic physician. He may recommend Tylenol® (if not contraindicated) to take one hour before cosmetic injectables to get off any discomfort.

· Try to stop taking blood thinner, which is prescribed for making your blood flow smooth through veins and arteries. Doctors recommend it in the case of heart diseases or mitigating the risk of clotting. Stop it a week before your cosmetic procedure.

· Cold sores are another condition that you cannot ignore. If you have any sign of these in the past, disclose it to your cosmetic doctor during consultation. He will suggest the best ways to prevent its outbreak.

· Dental procedures, such as bleaching, vaneer and RTC etc., should be paused for a few weeks, at least two weeks before and after any cosmetic injectables procedure.

· These injectables need a clean surface so that there would have no space for infections or allergies to outbreak. So, try to visit for cosmetic treatment with a "no makeup look".

· Skip exercising or other events on that day, as fast blood circulation can worsen bruises or swelling. Go without workout for at least 24 to 48 hours after you get dermal filler or Botox injections.

Precautions to Take After Dermal Filler Injections

· Redness, slight swelling, bruising and tenderness are some obvious signs that you have undergone an injectable procedure. Don’t worry! These all fade away in just a few days upon being treated. In case these signs consistently persist, immediately inform your doctor.

· Cold compresses are often given to reduce discomfort and soothe the oozing out of blood. It also calms down swelling and soreness. If you relentlessly feel restless and discomfort, ask to take Tylenol after 4 to 6 hours of the treatment. It’s better to endure it.

· Although you would not apply make-up before, but it’s absolutely ok if you want to put it on after one day. But, try to keep it away for 3 to 5 days at least.

· First 28 days after the treatment are crucial. Try to hide from sun exposure, as the UV rays can worsen redness, bruises or inflammation. Do not go out for a week. Thereafter, you should move out, putting the doctor recommended sun block. SPF 30 or more with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide can be good to go with. Apply it thrice a day.

· Like pre-procedure, pain killers or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like Ibuprofen and heavy doses of Vitamin E should be restricted for five days after taking injections if you really want to get off bleeding or bruising.

· Don’t massage the area for at least 6 hours after it. Clean with medicated lotion/ face wash and the way your cosmetic physician prescribes. Be gentle when washing.

· Do see your doctor when he calls for follow-up, as it can help you to keep the effect of anti-aging dermal fillers for a long time.
