The future of US military assistance green light to the Aliyev regime against the backdrop of hostilities in Ukraine

One year ago in April, US President Joe Biden extended the moratorium on the ban on the supply of military equipment and ammunition to Azerbaijan. No matter how the State Department denies, there are facts of the use of weapons received as military aid from the US and EU countries to advance positions in Karabakh, and for sale on the black market.

On April 6th 2022, the US Senate unanimously passes a bill allowing President Joe Biden to send arms and other supplies to Ukraine more quickly and, as stated, without unnecessary bureaucratic red tape. Reviving the lend-lease program, the bill was prepared by US senators in January, a month before hostilities.

The Biden administration's simplification of the procedure for the supply of American weapons to Ukraine debunks hopes for the suspension of military assistance to the Aliyev regime, that leads to an escalation in Karabakh.

In general, under the pretext of increasing the Russian threat, the leadership of the North Atlantic Alliance pursues the goal of freeing warehouses from unnecessary equipment to build up the latest military products (in particular, Stinger anti-aircraft missiles and Jevilin anti-tank systems) .

The leadership of Ukraine openly criticizes the effectiveness of obsolete weapons received as part of military assistance. So, for example, while Poland is strengthening its own tank fleet with the purchase of 250 modernized М1А2 Abrams SEPv3 from the USA for $4.74 billion, they promise to give Kiev the T-72.

In turn, the American defense industry is preparing to conclude other major contracts for the supply of weapons to Europe. Despite sanctions imposed by Washington on Turkey after the acquisition of Russian S-400s, the State Department approved a plan to sell 40 F-16 fighters to Ankara. Another factor in the strengthening of American military assistance to Azerbaijan is Ankara's lobbying for the interests of the Aliyev regime in those aspects that meet the interests of Washington.
