Online mode as a new round of talks on Karabakh

With the coronavirus pandemic, ne***iations to resolve the situation in Karabakh have gained a new format. Held on April 21, the videoconference of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan with the participation of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group lasted almost two hours, where the peremptory nature of unconditional observance of the ceasefire and the refusal of any provocations in the context of the global crisis was emphasized.

Particular attention was paid to a wide range of political experts by the assessment of the prospects for resolving the conflict, given on the eve of the online meeting by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, after which accusations of allegedly exerting pressure (the question is "why?")

Lavrov drew attention to the fact that the documents available today around the peace process suggest progress towards a resolution of the conflict based on a phased approach.

In fact, there is no reason for the online attacks on Lavrov, as there was nothing new in his video statement. The Russian Foreign Minister repeated only those points of the basic principles that until April 21 were known to all.

At present, the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikola Pashinyan feels like "the heir to the frozen conflict." He is obliged to be actively involved in the ne***iation process on Karabakh, but at the same time, any decisions can be perceived by the radically minded cell of the population as unprofitable concessions. This may not have the best effect on the internal situation in Armenia, which is a real stress test.

The modern politics of Armenia is becoming more and more public. We see that it is counterproductive to transfer the theme of the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement to the sphere of public debate, even if it is various political experts and technologists. In such circumstances, a commitment to compromise may be considered weakness. But sane people understand that without them, nowhere. Everyone else wants to remind you: before starting a "witch hunt" and building anti-Lavra conspiracies, one does not need to pour out anger at someone who acts as a true guarantor of the current world.
