Brief History of the origin of cakes
First cakes in Italy
Today it is impossible to say where and who invented the cake. Some culinary historians tend to conclude that the prototype of the cake was originated in Italy. Linguists believe that the word cake translated from Italian means something ornate and intricate, and associate it with numerous cake decorations made from a scattering of various colours, inscriptions and ornaments.
Others adhere to a different theory of the origin of cakes. Everyone knows the tastiest sweets of the East, which even a sophisticated gourmet can force to bow before their exquisite taste and charming flavour. Followers of this idea found that the ancient chefs of the most mysterious part of the world were preparing desserts using milk, honey and sesame.
First cakes in France
It was in France, in small coffee shops and cafes, that cakes have appeared once, and they conquered the whole world. For many centuries it was French chefs and pastry chefs who dictated the trends in the serving and decoration of this sweet masterpiece.
It is not surprising that in this country of love and romance the most famous names of desserts have appeared, which are still caressing our ears: meringue, cream, caramel, jellies and biscuits.
Nevertheless, regardless of who invented the cake, each country has its traditions and recipes for baking this dish.
First cake in London
It was in London that the first multi-tiered cakes appeared. Such cakes are sometimes brought into the hall where the celebration takes place, on special carts, because of their special fragility and, of course, great weight. And the great process of cutting the first piece is amazing and it has become so famous since the eighteenth century.
Cakes and the Guinness Book of Records
There are a lot of funny things and interesting facts associated with cakes. Some of them were even recorded and listed in the Guinness Book of Records: For example, the highest cake was cooked in the United States of America, Michigan. It towered over the table for more than thirty meters.
The heaviest cake was also baked in the USA, only in Alabama. This miracle weighed more than fifty tons. One of the main parts of this masterpiece was ice cream, and its shape resembled the image of a state on a geographical map.
